Using Axolotl's integrated Record Locator Service (RLS) and iMaster Patient Index (MPI), providers throughout the community will have the ability to access medication history, laboratory reports, and radiology reports/eImaging via a secure web portal. Physicians in gRrhio's service area will also use Axolotl's integrated e-prescribing solution and secure clinical messaging to receive patient data from multiple hospitals, reference laboratories, and imaging centers. gRrhio, a HEAL NY funding recipient, covers a region of 9 counties, serving 1.2 million people. First elements of the plan are expected to be running for a selected group of users in six months.

McKesson announced implementation of Horizon Real-Time Location System, the company's new radio frequency identification (RFID) solution, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center, Spartanburg, SC, which is using the solution to track and record the location history of 550 intravenous (IV) infusion pumps throughout its facility. "IV pumps are vital to patient safety, so it's essential to let caregivers know promptly when and where they're available," says Ray Shingler, Spartanburg's CIO. "Each infusion pump can cost as much as $10,000 and requires regular software upgrades. Being able to track these devices via a wireless-based RTLS helps us to address multiple safety, compliance and asset utilization issues." The solution taps into Spartanburg's existing 802.11 wireless network. Using a standard Web-based browser, staff can view a map of the facility to pinpoint the location of all tagged assets.

MEDITECH will show release 5.6 of its Client/Server at the HIMSS conference this year which the company says represents a major shift in the design approach and workflow navigation of MEDITECH systems. Specific new products being shown include Oncology Management and Scanning & Archiving. "We have designed desktop-based applications, and a new user interface, that unify care teams and streamline a more efficient care delivery system," says Hoda Sayed-Friel, VP marketing. "New evidence-based medicine and e-prescribing capabilities allow hospitals to tailor treatments, measure outcomes, and implement standards of care."

Thomson Micromedex and A.D.A.M. formed an alliance to provide consumer-oriented health, drug, and lab information to hospitals, health plans, health web portals, and pharmaceutical companies. The companies will co-develop new integrated solutions that combine the "best of A.D.A.M.'s health information with evidence-based drug information from Thomson to help patients better understand medical conditions and treatments." Terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Available in the first quarter, the new health education information resource features comprehensive illustrated health and drug encyclopedias, a drug interaction checker, personalized health risk assessment tools, and interactive treatment option tools. Protect Your Scientific Intellectual Property: Proof of Lab Informatics Data Authenticity is Your Best Legal Defense
Sponsored by Surety, LLC

As a bio-technology or life sciences organization, your formulas, treatments and research and discoveries are the “lifeblood” of your business. But if you aren't protecting the integrity of your scientific data in your lab informatics systems, you risk losing IP ownership, revenue and consequently your business if you can't prove time-of-creation and data authenticity. Learn how you can implement simple, cost-effective and automated controls to protect your scientific intellectual property. Consider:

  • IP protection requirements in bio-pharma and other science-oriented industries can extend out 20, 30, 40 or more years
  • Most electronic lab management solutions include generic authenticity controls, so how "legally defensible" is yours?
  • Only standards-compliant, independent controls can future-proof your approach to long-term IP integrity protection and authenticity.
